Assistant Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist
Job Summary
The Assistant Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist provides support to the OB/GYN Specialist in the care of women’s reproductive health, including the management of pregnancy, childbirth, and gynecological health. The assistant specialist will be involved in both clinical and surgical duties under the supervision of an experienced OB/GYN specialist. This role combines patient care, diagnostics, treatment planning, and procedural support, with opportunities for professional development and advancement within the field.
Job Responsibilities 1
Assists in providing prenatal care by conducting routine assessments such as blood pressure checks, weight monitoring, and urine tests. Help track fetal growth and maternal health, reporting findings to the OB/GYN specialist.
Provides assistance during labor and delivery by supporting the OB/GYN specialist in monitoring maternal and fetal health, preparing the delivery room, and assisting with non-surgical interventions.
Assists in providing postnatal care to new mothers, ensuring proper recovery, addressing complications such as hemorrhaging, and supporting breastfeeding and maternal bonding.
Assists in routine gynecological checkups, screenings (e.g., Pap smears), and monitoring for common reproductive health concerns, including infections, fibroids, or menstrual disorders.
Provides education and counseling on family planning options, including oral contraceptives, IUDs, and other birth control methods under the guidance of the OB/GYN specialist.
Assists in the evaluation and management of menopause symptoms and counseling for patients undergoing perimenopause and menopause.
Provides hands-on assistance during gynecological and obstetric surgeries, including Cesarean sections, hysterectomies, laparoscopy, and other relevant procedures.
Job Responsibilities 2
Ensures proper preparation and sterilization of surgical instruments and assists the surgical team during procedures by passing instruments, providing suction, and managing surgical sites.
Assists in monitoring patients’ post-surgery, managing recovery, addressing complications, and ensuring smooth recovery processes.
Supports the OB/GYN specialist in performing minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopic surgery and diagnostic procedures like hysteroscopy.
Assists in organizing and collecting samples for lab tests, including blood work, urine samples, and cervical smears.
Works alongside radiologists or sonographers to help in the performance of routine ultrasounds or other imaging tests as ordered by the OB/GYN specialist.
Assists in reviewing test results, communicating findings to the OB/GYN specialist, and helping to develop treatment plans or follow-up care.
Provides educational support to patients on a range of topics including prenatal care, postnatal recovery, contraceptive options, and preventive gynecological care.

Job Knowledge & Skills
Strong knowledge of obstetrics and gynecology, including prenatal care, gynecological conditions, and surgical procedures.
Proficiency in using medical equipment, such as ultrasounds, fetal monitors, and surgical instruments.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide compassionate care and guidance to patients and families.
Ability to follow procedures carefully and document patient information accurately.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team, supporting both clinical and administrative functions.
Willingness to assist in various aspects of patient care, from routine visits to emergency interventions.
Job Experience
At least 3 years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in obstetrics and gynecology (internship, residency, or assistant position).
Minimum 1 year experience in GCC.
