Job Summary
The Cardiology Specialist is responsible for providing expert-level care to patients with cardiovascular conditions, exercising a high degree of clinical autonomy. This role involves diagnosing and managing complex heart diseases, performing specialized procedures, interpreting diagnostic results, and implementing comprehensive treatment plans. The Cardiology Specialist is expected to supervise Assistant Specialists, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality cardiac care. Additionally, they will be involved in teaching, research, and continuous professional development.
Job Responsibilities 1
Delivers advanced, evidence-based care for patients with a broad spectrum of cardiac conditions, including but not limited to coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmia, and congenital heart disease.
Assesses, diagnoses, and manages inpatients and outpatients with cardiac symptoms independently, as well as under the guidance of senior consultants, when necessary.
Regularly performs and interprets diagnostic tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and cardiac catheterization, and uses findings to guide treatment plans.
Leads daily rounds for inpatients and outpatients, coordinating patient care with other healthcare providers to ensure holistic management.
Accurately documents all relevant patient information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with the health record keeping policy.
Oversees and performs cardiac procedures within the scope of their privileges, including catheterizations, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation, and electrophysiological studies, depending on their specialization.
Modifies treatment plans and medication regimens based on the latest diagnostic results, ensuring alignment with best practices and evidence-based medicine.
Supervises Assistant Cardiology Specialists, providing guidance in patient management, clinical procedures, and day-to-day responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities 2
Offers mentorship to junior medical staff, ensuring their continued development in the field of cardiology.
Takes an active role in the performance evaluation and professional development of junior team members.
Participates in grand rounds, case discussions, and interdepartmental meetings, fostering collaborative care and a continuous learning environment.
Works closely with other specialists and multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care to complex cardiac patients.
Maintains a good working relationship with all members of staff and promote collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care
Effectively communicates with patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and prognoses, ensuring understanding and shared decision-making.
Refers patients to other specialties as necessary, ensuring coordinated care across departments and also provides consultations for patients from other subspecialities.
Additional Responsibilities 3
Fulfills the requirements of the Department of Health of Qatar regarding continuing medical education.
Participates in the assessment and updating of drug, medical supply and equipment needs for their specialty areas.
Performs special procedures as privileged
Participates in scheduling and attending of hospital shifts and/or on-call services
Actively participates in developing and implementation of the department vision, plans, rules and regulations
Assumes other administrative duties within the department or throughout the hospital as requested by the head of the department and/or medical director.
Contributes to the development of evaluation/audit processes to maintain standards within the organization.
Job Knowledge & Skills
Advanced knowledge of cardiology clinical practices, diagnostic tools, and treatment protocols.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Proven ability to lead clinical teams and mentor junior doctors.
High level of proficiency in performing invasive cardiology procedures.
Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development, research, and academic excellence.
Job Experience
At least 5 years of clinical experience in cardiology, including significant experience in inpatient and outpatient cardiac care, diagnostic procedures, and advanced cardiology treatments.
Minimum 1 year of experience in GCC (preferred).
