Job Summary
The Clinical Midwife works in partnership with women to provide the necessary support, care and advice during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period to conduct births on the midwife’s own responsibility and to provide care for the newborn and the infant. This care includes preventive measures, the promotion of normal birth, the detection of complications in mother and child, the accessing of medical care or other appropriate assistance and the carrying out of emergency measures.
She has an important task in health counseling and education, not only for the woman but also within the family and the community. This work should involve antenatal education and preparation for parenthood and may extend to women’s health, sexual or reproductive health and childcare.
Job Responsibilities 1
Delivers quality care to antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum women and neonates in collaboration with the multi- disciplinary team according to set clinical standards and relevant legislation.
Ensures patient safety by identifying, preventing, and managing risks in accordance with clinical risk policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
Sets priorities and plans the implementation of patient care, ensuring adherence to Nursing standards and policies and procedures, and making sure the care is completed in a timely and organized fashion.
Adheres to and implements all Hospital policies and procedures and guidelines as relevant to practice areas.
Provides comprehensive direct and indirect care to the specific population needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family, and condition needs.
Displays proficiency in assisting and supporting women before, during, and after childbirth, as well as providing safe and effective care for newborns.
Provides expert advice and delivers safe and effective midwifery care.
Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team members to assist with diagnostic therapeutic interventions and to improve the delivery of services to women and their families.
Recognizes abnormalities and refers the care of the woman to an appropriately qualified healthcare professional in a timely manner.
Identifies potential emergency situations and effectively manages codes and other emergencies within scope of midwifery practice.
Job Responsibilities 2
Maintains individualized, accurate, and comprehensive records of all interventions performed, reflecting the process from assessment, evaluation, and re-assessment following Hospital and regulatory standards.
Demonstrates proficiency in using required medical equipment, including emergency and resuscitation equipment.
Collaborates with and informs the Nursing Manager and/or Charge Nurse regarding both clinical and non-clinical concerns.
Contributes to the education and professional development of students and colleagues, and where appropriate coordinating learning opportunities.
Acts as an effective preceptor and takes opportunities to learn together with others in order to contribute to improved health outcomes.
Shares critical thinking skills and knowledge with both new and existing colleagues.
Maintains clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice. Maintains and promotes patient and family satisfaction through effective customer service.
Maintains confidentiality and ensures the security of written, verbal, and electronic patient information.
Ensures a safe environment by implementing quality assurance and risk management measures.
Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to redeployment to other units/areas, where practice is within midwifery scope.

Current Midwifery/Obstetric nursing knowledge with ability to recognize and apply basic pathophysiology in the nursing process.
Knowledge of, and ability to, render care based on age, appropriateness, and development needs of patients.

Job Experience
Overseas candidates: 3 years of clinical experience as a midwife after completing the midwifery program and registration/licensing as a registered midwife.

Minimum 1 year in GCC (preferred)
