Clinical Nurse 3
Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse 3 (CN3) is an experienced registered nurse who functions as a clinical expert and leader in the provision of nursing care within a specific patient population or clinical area. The CN3 provides direct patient care, supports the development of nursing practice, participates in quality improvement initiatives, and serves as a preceptor and mentor to other staff members. The CN3 demonstrates advanced clinical judgment, decision-making, and the ability to lead complex clinical situations and projects.
Job Responsibilities 1
Provides high-level, direct patient care in accordance with professional nursing standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.
Serves as a clinical expert and resource for complex patient care situations.
Coordinates, plans, and evaluates the care of patients in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Utilizes evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines in all aspects of care.
Acts as a clinical leader and mentor to nursing staff, including CN1s, CN2s, and unlicensed assistive personnel.
Participates in or leads interdisciplinary rounds, family conferences, and care coordination meetings.
Supports nurse manager with performance improvement initiatives and staff education.

Participates in unit-based and hospital-wide quality improvement programs.
Identifies trends in patient care outcomes and initiates improvements or corrective actions.
Monitors compliance with safety protocols and contributes to root cause analysis and corrective action planning when needed.
Serves as a preceptor and clinical instructor for new hires, students, and residents.
Participates in ongoing educational activities and ensures competency in clinical skills and knowledge.
Promotes and models a culture of continuous learning, evidence-based practice, and professional growth.
