Job Summary

To oversee all aspects of the Infection Prevention and Control programs and provide leadership, resources, tools, and analytics to reduce/eliminate hospital-acquired infections, manage outbreaks/exposures and improve clinical practice. Serve as a key interface with the Ministry of Public Health and other agencies in coordination with the senior clinical administrative leadership.

Job Responsibilities 1

    • Establish an IP&C strategy and programme of work including surveillance activities.
    • Establish, along with relevant Stakeholders the Infection Prevention and Control Committee to determine the direction of surveillance activities - actively monitor and evaluate effectiveness of the Infection Prevention and Control Strategy
    • Participate in the formulation of policies for the control and prevention of hospital infection.
    • Act as an accountable role model through the provision of professional leadership and demonstration of best practice in the   area of infection prevention and control
    • Advising and supporting under the supervision of infection control committee chairman and all heads of departments in the implementation of agreed infection control policies in their specific areas.
    • Serving as a member of committees related to infection control and collecting and recording relevant data and information.
    • Contribute to the preparation of timely and accurate reports to meet departmental requirements, policies, and standards.
    • Ensure that Preventive Medicine is informed of any communicable disease as specified by MOPH.
    • Ensure that patients and visitors have access to infection control information.

Job Responsibilities 2

    • Contribute to the identification of opportunities for the continuous improvement of systems, processes, and practices to increase productivity and operational efficiency and adhere to all relevant department’s policies, processes, procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
    • Follow all relevant organizational HSE and QM policies, processes, procedures, and instructions to ensure Health, Safety and Quality compliance in all aspects of work and ensure commitment to a culture of continuous improvement by complying with Quality Management System processes, providing, and receiving constructive feedback, to meet quality standards and stakeholder expectations.
    • Monitor, control, and report key performance indicators related to the department, to track performance and recommend corrective actions.
    • Investigating outbreaks of hospital infection with reference to their source and mode of spread.
    • Advising on isolation techniques and supervising the introduction and progress of such techniques in specific situations.
    • Continuously evaluating and updating control of infection measure in specific situations.

Additional Responsibilities 3

    • Keep up to date with advances in infection control by reading the relevant literature.
    • Attend courses, seminars, and conferences where appropriate to maintain and disseminate up to date knowledge of infection, its control and prevention.
    • Participate in hospital quality program and be member of quality committees if chosen.
    • Organizing and conducting microbiological and epidemiological surveys in under the supervision of infection control committee chairman.

Job Knowledge & Skills

• Previous Commissioning Experience of an acute Healthcare Facility desirable

• Previous Licencing experience of a Healthcare Facility in the GCC desirable

• Comprehensive knowledge of Accreditation Process in an acute Healthcare Facility with particular emphasis on JCI and preferably in more than one facility

• Demonstrate a working knowledge of policy drivers and quality standards relating to infection control.

• Knowledge of infection control in the built environment and facilities management.

• Experience and knowledge in service contracts.

• Robust communication skills

• Leadership skills

• Good IT skills

• Advanced analytical skill

• ERP knowledge preferably SAP functional skills are a requirement to be successful in this role.

Job Experience

Minimum 10 years of experience (required) - 5 years in Acute Care and 5 of these years can be as a Nurse.

4 years experience in prevention and control of infection

Minimum 2 years in GCC (preferred)
