Job Summary

The Laboratory Technologist II is responsible to perform and provide analysis for low to high complex diagnostic testing in the relevant section and provide Phlebotomy services especially for difficult blood draws. 

Job Responsibilities 1

Actively participates in the technical and analytical work of the section. 

Liaises with the Team Lead on appropriateness of tests, results, and additional testing as required. 

Monitors, records, reports back results, and participates in discussions to rectify areas of concern if necessary. 

Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problem or notifies the Team Lead. 

Responds to questions/queries and resolves problems pertaining to test requisitions, specimen requirements, test additions, priority changes (from routine to STAT and vice versa) and patient results. 

Investigates and takes action to resolve the problems with analytical methods and equipment. 

Collects laboratory specimens and performs assigned laboratory procedures and other tests as necessary and immediately reports abnormal findings to appropriate staff.  

Verifies all critical results and documents with accurate follow-up.  

Performs pediatric and adult phlebotomy. 

Provides phlebotomy support to other clinical units for patients with difficult veins. 

Collects venous and capillary blood, using precautions that ensure the safety of the patient and Laboratory staff. 

Performs positive patient identification and records appropriate collection information in the Center information system or on the Laboratory requisition form. 

Ensures that all specimen collections and processing are performed in compliance with JCI, CAP and ISO15189 guidelines. 

Performs appropriate documentation of Laboratory procedures to assure the accuracy of Laboratory records. 

Assists the Team Lead in inventory management which includes stock monitoring and ordering. 

Operates complex automated Laboratory equipment, computer software, and precision instruments. 

In liaison with the Team Lead, provides technical advice on, and assists in the selection / validation of new equipment. 

 

Job Responsibilities 2

Takes responsibility for the maintenance and safe use of equipment within the section.  

Uses Laboratory Information System (LIS) to generate workload statistics, run queries and assess quality of data according to defined criteria. 

Responsible for planning, performing, and evaluating Laboratory testing analysis and quality control. 

Ensures compliance to all policies and procedures. 

Adheres to KMC standards as per the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies. 

Adheres to the Laboratory’s quality control policies and procedures and performs, reviews, and documents all quality control activities accordingly. 

Helps ensure the provision of a high quality, cost-effective service with the emphasis on quality assurance in all aspects of the section supervised by monitoring and audit of internal quality control. 

Ascertains that quality control procedures are followed prior to releasing clinical data. 

Reviews and evaluates quality control, proficiency, and competency.

Job Knowledge & Skills

Expert in pediatric and adult phlebotomy. 

Functional knowledge and clinical experience in Clinical laboratories. 

Knowledge of and experience with Clinical laboratory safety and risks. 

Knowledge of ISO 15189/CAP/JCI standards and guidelines. 

Demonstrated strong analytical and decision-making skills. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

Job Experience

Minimum 4 years’ experience in clinical laboratories as a licensed Clinical Scientist or Technologist (Required).  

Minimum 3 years of Phlebotomy experience in a pediatric hospital (Required)

Minimum 3 years as a Technologist in a CAP or ISO15189 laboratory (Preferred)

Minimum 2 years in GCC (Preferred)
