Internal Medicine/ Nephrology Specialist

Job Summary

The Internal Medicine/ Nephrology Specialist role combines expertise in internal medicine with a specialized focus on nephrology, dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney diseases. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both general internal medicine and nephrology, as well as a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

Job Responsibilities 1

Conducts comprehensive evaluations and physical exams for patients with internal medicine concerns and kidney-related issues.

Diagnoses, treats, and manages chronic kidney disease (CKD), end-stage renal disease (ESRD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and other nephrological disorders.

Provides ongoing care for dialysis patients, including the management of peritoneal and hemodialysis.

Educates patients on the impact of kidney diseases, lifestyle modifications, and adherence to prescribed treatments.

Prescribes and manages medications specific to nephrology, including diuretics, antihypertensive agents, immunosuppressants, and erythropoiesis-stimulating agents.

Interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests, including urine analysis, kidney function tests, and imaging studies like ultrasounds and CT scans.

Monitors the progress of patients under dialysis and transplant care, assessing lab results, vitals, and overall condition.

Job Responsibilities 2

Provides consultations to other healthcare providers regarding nephrology cases and internal medicine issues.

Offers pre-operative evaluations for kidney transplant candidates and assists with post-transplant care.

Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including nephrology nurses, dietitians, social workers, and other specialists.

Coordinates care for hospitalized patients and in outpatient clinics, ensuring continuous care for those with nephrology concerns.

Engages in regular communication with patients’ primary care physicians and other specialists to ensure holistic care management.

Provides education to patients, families, and staff on kidney disease prevention, dialysis modalities, and transplant options.

Participates in the training and supervision of medical residents, fellows, and other healthcare providers.

Job Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience in internal medicine, with substantial exposure to nephrology.

Experience managing complex renal cases, including CKD, ESRD, dialysis patients, and kidney transplant management.
