Plaster Technician

They will work as an integral part of the Trauma and Orthopedic team. They will be based in the Outpatient department and will carry out plaster and bracing treatments to help provide a safe, professional, and efficient service for a high level of patient care.

The View Hospital aims to provide high quality, Orthopedic services across the following key service areas:

  • Trauma and ER
  • Operating Rooms
  • Orthopaedic Inpatient and Outpatients
  • Neonatal and Paediatric Outpatients
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a qualified plaster technician.


    • Provides treatment of adult and paediatric patients, referred to the service, in the plaster room and ward environments.
    • Assists in application of plaster of Paris (POP) casts and specialized casts and splints including spinal jackets, hip Spica, serial casting for clubfeet, shoulder Spica, and hinged casts.
    • Assists in the application/adjustments of splints and braces such as Pavlik harness and boots and bars.
    • Assists with wound care, removal of sutures, skin clips and percutaneous K-wires as directed.
    • Assists the physician in applying, adjusting, and removing skin traction, skeletal and manual traction.
    • Assists the clinicians in direct treatment of the patient plan.
    • Provides effective and safe patient (and family) education to assist in management of casts and braces, in line with evidence-based practice.
    • Takes an active role within the development of the Plaster service, participating in In-Service training, facilitating the training and development of other staff, and sharing knowledge and skills where appropriate.
    • Manages own time and caseload with an awareness of limitations of the Plaster service.
    • Adheres to all departmental and facility wide policies, procedures, risk assessments and processes in the interests of maintaining a safe and effective work environment and promoting the highest quality patient care experience.
    • Practises clear, concise, and timely documentation of clinical records including (but not limited to) initial assessment, re-evaluation, treatment sessions, discharge planning, referral letters and reports using a variety of digital applications and IT systems.
    • Takes responsibility for security, care, and day to day maintenance of equipment and working environment including carrying out daily calibration of all applicable equipment.
    • Co-ordinates the reporting of issues and facilitation of repair in collaboration with senior staff.
    • Maintains appropriate infection control practices and training to maintain the safety of patients and colleagues.
    • Undertakes clinical and non-clinical audit tasks, as assigned, aimed at informing the facility leadership on performance in critical areas as deemed necessary.
    • Maintains and develops own knowledge and skills through further learning activities related to the role of a Plaster technician within the Hospital.
    • Always recognizes own limits of competence and levels of responsibility and accountability within the approved scope of practice.
    • Functions at all times in accordance with the national laws and regulations, legislative, regulatory and policy guidelines relevant to the scope of Plaster technician practice in the State of Qatar.
    • Current, valid, home country license to practise Plaster (Overseas candidates) if applicable/ Current, valid, license to practise Plaster in Qatar.
