Senior Clinical Applications Specialist
Job Summary
The Senior Clinical Applications Specialist will be responsible for the implementation, management, and optimization of clinical applications used within the healthcare organization. This role is essential in ensuring that clinical systems are integrated seamlessly into daily operations, providing healthcare providers with the tools necessary for effective patient care, improving clinical workflows, and enhancing operational efficiencies. The Senior Clinical Applications Specialist will work closely with clinicians, IT teams, vendors, and other key stakeholders to support, troubleshoot, and improve clinical applications, as well as drive adoption of best practices across the organization.
Job Responsibilities 1
Leads the implementation, configuration, and optimization of clinical software systems (EHR, EMR, CPOE, PACS, etc.) in collaboration with project managers, IT teams, and clinical stakeholders.
Oversees the ongoing support, maintenance, and troubleshooting of clinical applications, ensuring minimal disruptions to clinical operations.
Acts as the primary point of contact for clinical staff in relation to clinical applications, offering high-level support and guidance.
Provides expertise in customizing and optimizing clinical workflows within the applications to support clinical best practices and improve productivity.
Regularly assesses system performance and identifies areas for improvement, working with clinical departments to enhance workflows and increase system utilization.
Develops and implements application enhancements, updates, and patches to ensure clinical systems meet the needs of the organization.
Collaborates with clinical leadership to align applications functionality with clinical goals and regulatory compliance requirements.
Leads the process of system upgrades, ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure and minimizing downtime during transitions.
Job Responsibilities 2
Designs, develops, and delivers training programs and materials for clinical staff to ensure efficient use of clinical applications.
Conducts one-on-one and group training sessions for new users, as well as ongoing training for existing staff on new features and updates.
Develops user guides, best practice documentation, and troubleshooting resources to empower clinicians to resolve issues independently when appropriate.
Serves as a mentor and resource for junior Clinical Applications Specialists and other staff, providing guidance and leadership in application support.
Acts as the liaison between the organization and external vendors of clinical applications, ensuring that service-level agreements (SLAs) are met and that the needs of the clinical teams are communicated effectively.
Collaborates with vendors to resolve issues related to clinical software, monitor vendor performance, and ensure product improvements align with organizational needs.
Coordinates with vendors on system enhancements, customizations, and troubleshooting efforts to meet clinical requirements.
Ensures clinical applications comply with healthcare regulations and standards (e.g., HIPAA, Meaningful Use, ICD-10, MACRA).

- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clinicians, IT teams, and vendors.
- Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences, particularly clinical staff.
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience developing training materials, user guides, and system documentation.
- Ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
- Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and lead initiatives to successful outcomes.
Job Experience
Minimum of 8 years of experience working in clinical application support, clinical informatics, or a related healthcare IT role.
4 years of experience as FTE in an inpatient operating facility (required).
