Steel Mechanical Foreman
Job Summary
The Steel Mechanical Foreman supervises mechanical maintenance activities in rolling mill operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient performance of equipment such as gearboxes, motors, and hydraulic systems. The role leads troubleshooting, preventive maintenance planning, and repair execution while coordinating with production and quality teams to minimize downtime and maintain operational targets. Additionally, the position enforces safety compliance, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and provides technical guidance to enhance team performance and equipment reliability.
Job Responsibilities 1
Operational Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
• Supervise routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on rolling mill equipment including gearboxes, motors, rollers, and hydraulic systems.
• Ensure equipment availability by minimizing downtime through proactive maintenance planning and rapid troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support
• Lead mechanical fault diagnosis, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to restore operations.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance to technicians during breakdowns and complex repair activities.
Team Supervision & Work Coordination
• Oversee daily activities of mechanical maintenance technicians and allocate tasks based on priorities.
• Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and within planned schedules.
Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
• Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance plans for rolling mill machinery.
• Coordinate maintenance shutdowns with production to minimize operational disruption.
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce compliance with safety procedures including lockout/tagout, PPE, and safe lifting practices.
• Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
Quality & Production Coordination
• Coordinate with quality control and production teams regarding mass variance and equipment performance.
• Ensure mechanical settings and adjustments support product quality standards.
Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and repair logs.
• Prepare maintenance reports and track key performance indicators such as downtime and reliability.
Continuous Improvement
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency.
• Support installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment upgrades.

Job Knowledge & Skills
• Rolling Mill Equipment Knowledge: Strong understanding of rolling mill mechanical systems including stands, rollers, gearboxes, and drive systems.
• Mechanical Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose mechanical failures and implement corrective maintenance solutions efficiently.
• Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems: Proficiency in maintaining hydraulic power units, cylinders, and pneumatic control systems.
• Maintenance Planning: Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices to improve equipment reliability.
• Safety Compliance: Familiarity with industrial safety standards including lockout/tagout, PPE, and safe maintenance practices.
Job Experience
• Rolling Mill Maintenance Experience: Minimum 8–12 years of mechanical maintenance experience in steel plant or rolling mill operations handling heavy industrial equipment.
• Supervisory Experience: At least 3–5 years in a foreman or lead technician role managing mechanical maintenance teams.
• Heavy Equipment Exposure: Proven experience working with hydraulic systems, gearboxes, motors, conveyors, and rolling mill machinery in continuous production environments.
